I always thought it was a kick while waiting for a table at Fish City in the Firewheel Town Center to wander across the street to Starbucks. It was just close enough that the your-table-is-ready buzzer still worked.
 
I received an e-mail tonight asking if I knew that store was one of those recently named for closure. I confirmed the rumor (link here). The employees affected will be transferred to other stores.
 
The nearby Starbucks on Lavon Dr won't be closed and the Barnes & Noble Café won't change.
 
It seems to have taken a few people by surprise that particular Starbucks was targeted and I think the impression is given that somehow the Town Center is not doing as well as they thought. Actually the opposite is true.
 
The Town Center's success means rents are higher, as are the triple-net expenses. The Town Center Starbucks was doing well but it opened later than all the other area stores and closed earlier than most. The shorter operating hours and the higher expenses made the business decision easy.
 
I don't know what new business will relocate to that spot but I hope it still makes carrying the your-table-is-ready buzzer across the street worth the trip.
