English (US)   District 1 Crime Holding Low Incidents  -  Categories: Police Department  -  @ 05:24:04 pm

The number of reported crimes for District 1 in July is the lowest of the year. With crime rising nationally and in Garland, to have the district stats remain steady and even drop a little is good news.

It is essential to remain diligent, to report crimes promptly, and to be a good neighbor. I received a report from one neighborhood earlier today that a couple had been harrassed in their own yard and that mail thieves had hit the area. Good crime stats are not an accident but the result of everyone working together to combat crime. Accepting crime or losing our attentiveness will work against us.

The drop in vehicle burglaries is the credit for the low numbers because there was a slight rise in most of the other categories.

Against a "typical" month, it appears that reported incidents in commercial and retail areas rose compared to a decline in neighborhoods.

Be safety conscious at all times. Report incidents to the police immediately. Report suspicious activities or persons. The non-emergency number is (972) 485-4840. Let's work to keep our families and neighbors safe!
