Fire Training Tower

The Fire Dept's training tower will simulate multiple fire situations.
It is still under construction. Railings and outside stairways are
among items still to be installed.

Fire Administration Building

The main entrance to the Administration Building, still under
construction, features many of the architectural details from
fire houses of yesteryear.

The new Fire Department Administration and Training Facility on SH 66 is across the highway from District 1 but I often hear, "What is that building?"

Plenty of people seem to notice the unusual building. Part of the reason it is so noticeable and strange looking is that it is designed to allow fire simulations from a variety of scenarios. Fighting fires in a residential home, or apartment, or retail, or industrial, or other type of structure can all be very different.

The tower allows instructors to simulate many types of fires, including a loading dock fire or cutting into the roof of a residence or a multi-story fire and the list goes on and on.

The building is virtually fireproof. Flames from propane gas can be used almost anywhere. Propane burns very cleanly so smoke will have to be added.

The Fire Administration Building next door is a remodel of an existing office/warehouse.

The entryway has been fashioned to resemble on old-time fire house. The lobby area will be a fire museum in many ways, exhibiting tools and artifacts from the profession, awards, and perhaps an old fire engine. Multiple offices are to the front of the building.

Training facilities are a large part of the remainder of the Fire Department's portion of the building, with class rooms, a work-out room, and an auditorium. The rooms will be available to other city departments and the public.

Outside is a one-third mile running track around the perimeter for recruit training. The track will also be available for seniors and others that want a place to walk in bid circles.

The remainder of the building will be remodeled for the MIS Department and Emergency Management.
